COMPETITION
GUIDELINES
1-
Definition:
Animatu 2008 – international digital animation festival is going to occur from
October 15 to 19 at Pax Julia – Municipal Theatre of Beja (PORTUGAL) and the
objective is to show and reward the best works made in this field.
2-
Category:
·
2D -
2D computer generated animations, with a maximum of 30 minutes. This includes
all vector-based animations. You may use scanned images but the main effect
can only be achieved through software. Example: digital cut-outs. The
hand-draw frame-by-frame animations, made on paper or cel, scanned and
digitally painted do not fit in this festival, unless this technique is only
used as a complement to the digital one, being the acceptance to this
competition dependent on the organization. Even if you use a digital tablet it
still may not fit this festival.

3D -
3D CGI with a maximum of 30 minutes.

Conditions:
·
The
participation is free and opened to independent or professional animators
of any
nationality.
·
The
registration is limited to 2 works for participant. Each work can only enter
in one category. The organization may change the submission from one category
to another that they think may fit better or even refuse an entry if the work
doesn´t fit any category.
·
The
films must be produced after
1st
January 2007 and had never before been selected to this competition.
·
There is no specific topic for the films, although the organization will not
accept any message that attempts against the elementary values of the human
being.
·
The
films will be subtitled by the organization at the bottom. So we will not
accept films with subtitles in any other language. Together with the entry
form all films must be
accompanied
by a
dialogue list in Portuguese or English (doc). The portuguese films will be
subtitled in english.
·
The
candidate must send a CD containing a
photograph
of the
film and of the director in TIFF or JPEG format (maximum resolution), 300 dpi
and a minimum of 10 x 10 cm size.
·
The
film must be sent in a
DVD - with only one single work in each (must be playable at universal DVD
players).
·
All
vector-based animation must be converted to DVD.
4-
Jury:
·
The
works submitted will be (pre-)selected by a Jury
Committee.
Then an International Jury will choose the winners.
·
The
Jury may choose no film if there are no quality works.
·
The decisions of the Jury are definitive.
5-
Prizes:
In each category: 1st Prize and 2nd Prize and Best Portuguese Film.
The films selected in the categories 2D/3D, Machinima and Motion Graphics run
for the Grand Prize and Best Portuguese Film and in any category run for the
RTP2-Onda Curta Prize (broadcast rights acquisition) and for the Tourism of
Alentejo Award.

Deadlines:
·
May
30, 2008.
·
The
shipping costs to the festival are at the expense of the sender
at risk of
being sent back.
We do not pay custom taxes. All the
material for submission must be mailed to
the following address mentioning in the envelope “for cultural proposes/no
commercial value” and declared value for customs purposes lower than 5 USD:

Notes:
·
The
awarding ceremony will be held in the next edition, in the festival. All
awarded directors will be our guest with all the expenses covered (maximum of
2 per film).
·
It
is not the
organisation’s
responsibility to accept any incorrectly completed entry or any CD/DVD in bad
conditions. So, please test your material and check all documentation before
you send it.
·
Films will not be sent back, so we advise you to make a copy.
·
Taking part in the festival implies acceptance without restrictions of these
regulations.
Any possible
doubt or question that may arise has to be presented by an exposure letter
sent to the
Organisation
Committee.
